Nemanja Vidic insists the Manchester United players have learned lessons from missing out on the title to bitter rivals City on a dramatic final day of last season
Sidelined with injury, the United skipper could only look and watch as Manchester City scored two goals deep into stoppage-time against QPR to be crowned champions on goal difference.
With a number of other key players forced into the treatment room, Sir Alex Ferguson had to play more young players than he might have liked during a time when experience is all in a title run-in.
Vidic is now back to full fitness after his knee injury and he is adamant that a repeat is not on the cards this season as everyone at United is wiser for the heart-breaking experience.
"We had some young players play a lot of games last season and they'll have learned a lot. We all learned," Vidic told the club's official website.
"In Europe we've had so much success in recent years - we've had three finals, a semi-final - and maybe we relaxed a bit last season.
"We were punished and we can't allow that to happen again. We had a few injuries last season too. I hope everyone can stay fit this season.
"The young players can learn from last year, so I'm confident we'll be better this year."
