Colombian looking to take opportunity

Colombia international David Gonzalez is hoping to put himself in the shop window after signing for Barnsley. The former Manchester City and Brighton goalkeeper is available on a free transfer, and he has been snapped up by the Tykes after their No.1 Ben Alnwick was sent off in the Capital One Cup clash with Rochdale. With Alnwick out, Barnsley wanted an experienced keeper to take them into the new season and Gonzalez has accepted the chance to start their first three matches. The 30-year-old hopes that he can prove himself in the opening week of the Championship campaign. "I am very happy to get the chance, Barnsley are a very good club and obviously ideally I would like to stay," he told Sky Sports. "But at the very least I know it is a good chance for me to show my capabilities."
