St Etienne chief claims it will take huge fee to prise away youngster

St Etienne youngster Kurt Zouma is reportedly attracting interest from QPR but the French club insist he will not come cheap. The 17-year-old has established himself as a first-term regular in defence for Les Verts despite his tender years and is highly-rated in his homeland. QPR have been linked with a number of players in recent days as manager Mark Hughes continues to strengthen his squad after only surviving relegation on the final day of last season and Zouma has emerged as the latest target. According to L'Equipe, the youngster's agent had talks in London on Tuesday and the Hoops have entered tentative discussions with St Etienne officials. But, while stopping short of ruling out a sale, St Etienne's chairman Roland Romeyer has warned the Loftus Road club that any deal for Zouma will be costly.

No offers

"Currently I have received no offers for Zouma or for any other player," Romeyer told L'Equipe. "For €12million (£9.5m) there will be no deal. We need Zouma this season. "Is he untransferable? That doesn't mean anything in football. "I don't know what could happen. There are things impossible to refuse." Zouma played 22 games for St Etienne in Ligue 1 last season and is already a France Under 19 international. He is under contract until 2016.
