Striker agrees new month-long deal at Deepdale

Sky Sports understands in-form striker Akpo Sodje has agreed to sign a new deal at Preston. Talks over fresh terms stalled earlier this week over the length of the contract with Sodje hoping he had earned a longer-term stay after impressing since his arrival at Deepdale. However, Preston only offered Sodje a one-month extension to his initial short-term deal and the striker has now decided to take up the offer. Sodje's, agent Jonathan Hope, confirmed it was always the 32-year-old's intention to stay at Deepdale and that he will win a longer deal after this second monthly contract. "Akpo Sodje has agreed to sign for a further month with Preston North End and I'm delighted for him," Hope told skysports.com.

Move forward

"He is fast building a strong relationship with the supporters and wants to continue to score goals for the club. "It was always our intention to stay with Preston and although we were hoping for a year, we are confident the longer contract will be offered after this further four-week spell. "Akpo is determined to stay on top of the goalscoring charts and I believe in him to do just that. "My thanks go to Peter Risdale and Graham Westley in their continued support of Akpo and also to the supporters who have welcomed him. "This is now behind us and we will move forward together. Akpo Sodje has a lot more to give and he is determined to pay the board and fans back with goals and top performances."
