The striker equalled Ray Pointer's record of scoring in eight successive games with a brace in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Bristol City.
Pointer scored 12 goals in eight games during the 1958/59 season while Austin's double took his tally to 14 from the same number of games.
And the former Swindon Town striker told the club's website: "It felt very special once I slid in that first goal to equal the record.
"I couldn't get away from the fact it (the record) was hanging over me and I was just pleased to get the goal.
"As a youngster with little knowledge of Burnley before I came here, I have to say I'd not really heard of Ray Pointer, but it's great to be up there alongside someone recognised as a club great."
He added: "I am trying to score every time I go on the pitch at the moment and it seems to be going well.
"The important thing is the three points and it was just nice to be on the end of a late goal because it's happened to us a few times this season."
