The Gunners suffered a shock 1-0 setback against Norwich City in their last Premier League outing, before failing to find the target once again as their fine home record in the UEFA Champions League was dealt a rare blow by Schalke on Tuesday.
The task now facing Arsene Wenger's side is ensuring that they do not allow a minor blip to become an alarming wobble, with it imperative that they get their season back on track when Queens Park Rangers visit Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
"We have had a difficult week, our results were kind of an accident, now we have to find our game again," conceded Mertesacker.
"The international break was kind of a killer for us. We have to find our strength back again quickly.
"We have the potential in us, but first we have to fight.
"In the next training sessions we will look to get our confidence back.
"Sometimes you need one game to find your strength and qualities back, so let's do it on Saturday."
Arsenal will be strong favourites to take three points from their latest outing, as QPR are rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, but Mertesacker insists the Gunners are taking for granted.
He added: "It is the same as against Norwich, they were bottom as well and we did not find solutions against a defensive side.
"We have to learn quickly from what happened there and against Schalke.
"If we do not find these solutions, it is going to be difficult both in the Premier League and the Champions League as well."
