Ridehalgh allowed early exit

Chesterfield have allowed Liam Ridehalgh to end his loan spell early, and the Huddersfield defender has since joined Rotherham.

Ridehalgh, who also had a temporary stint at the Proact Stadium last season, rejoined the Spireites in August and had been due to remain at the club until after this weekend's League Two fixture away at Plymouth. However, with Nathan Smith holding down the left-back spot in recent weeks, manager Paul Cook has decided the 21-year-old is surplus to requirements. "We felt it would only be fair to allow him to try and get fixed up with another loan move before Thursday's deadline," said Cook. "Liam has served us well during the two spells he's had here and we wish him well for the future." Ridehalgh returned to Huddersfield but was immediately sent back out on loan by the Terriers - just up the road from Chesterfield at Rotherham. Ridehalgh made 34 appearances for the Spireites, 14 this season, during his two spells in north Derbyshire.
