The 37-year-old hopes the final act of his five-and-a-half-year Galaxy career will be to help the franchise secure back-to-back MLS championships.
But before tackling the Houston Dynamos at the Home Depot Center, Beckham's first challenge is to master his own feelings.
He said: "I'm quite an emotional person, so I know that I'll feel more in the run-up to the game."
Beckham is leaving it to others to judge his impact on football in the United States, but his team-mates are more forthcoming about his achievements.
Landon Donovan said: "There's no doubt David's been an overhwleming success both on the field and off, and also within our locker room."
And Robbie Keane added: "He's a credit to the game, and he's been a credit to the Galaxy and the organisation. We're certainly going to miss him."
