An agent for the company World Eleven says they are brokering a deal which could be completed on Friday.
Maradona is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, the highlight of his career coming when he produced a sequence of superb displays to help Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup.
He later managed Argentina at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, leading them to the quarter-finals before they were handed a 4-0 defeat by Germany.
Iraq have been looking for a new coach since Brazilian great Zico resigned last month, claiming the country's football association were not abiding by the terms of his contract.
And, according to World Eleven's Hernan Tofoni, Maradona is on the brink of taking over.
Tofoni said: "We received the offer and contacted Diego, who accepted it. The executive committee of the Iraqi Football Federation is to meet on Friday to confirm the financial terms of the deal."
Iraq are currently third behind Japan and Australia in their World Cup 2014 qualifying group.
