Ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby, the Anfield club sit seventh in the table and 10 points off the UEFA Champions League places.
Liverpool will aim to close that gap next season and boss Rodgers wants reinforcements to help in the challenge.
"I just think we need a bit more depth and a bit more quality," he told Sky Sports.
"The players this year have done very well. I have asked everything of them and, in the main, they have done very well.
"The majority of the time, there have not been too many performances where I have been really disappointed."
Liverpool continue to be linked with Rodgers' former Swansea City colleague, Ashley Williams, as a replacement for the retiring and new Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.
Reading defender Alex Pearce, who could be available on a Bosman deal and worked with Rodgers at the Madejski Stadium during their time together at the club, is another reported target while Ajax forward Christian Eriksen could add an attacking option.
And Rodgers has indicated he is keen for a repeat of Liverpool's quick moves in the January transfer window, when Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho were signed.
"The club respect where we need to strengthen and where we need to improve," said Rodgers.
"We have seen from the last window in January, we got our business done early and brought in two outstanding players in Sturridge and Coutinho.
"Hopefully we will have a similar impact in the summer. If we can do that, that will make me really happy with the group going forward."
