Samuel Eto'o scored twice - the first after closing down goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand - before substitute Demba Ba completed the scoring on Wednesday night.
The result means the Blues now need just one more point to progress to the knockout phase.
"The result puts us in the driving seat in this group," Terry told Sky Sports 2.
"This gives the manager food for thought. We've got so many games coming up in the league and the Champions League.
"It is important we are all fighting. The ones who are left out are disappointed, but the ones who have come in have taken their opportunity."
Terry was pleased with the way his side bounced back after the weekend's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Newcastle.
"It was a shaky first 10 minutes but we settled down after that and started to play," he added.
"We wanted to respond (to defeat at Newcastle) and I thought we did that."
On Eto'o's opener, Terry added: "He's worked very hard to close him down. It wasn't the game-plan but fair play to Samuel for keeping chasing. He deserved his goal."
Schurrle was impressed by the Cameroon striker's second goal, saying: "The second one was perfect. Oscar and Willian played it through the middle and then Samuel was free in front of the goal to finish."
The Germany attacker was celebrating his 23rd birthday on Wednesday and added: "We needed 15 or 20 minutes to get into the game and forget the defeat on the weekend. But then we had a lot of possession and we deserved to win. We want to win this group."
