Reid could make Carlisle return

Carlisle boss Graham Kavanagh could be ready to bring defender Paul Reid back to his hometown club.

Kavanagh is on the hunt for a new central defender and former Barnsley skipper Reid, who completed a short-term deal at Northampton last month, impressed for the reserves after returning to the club on trial. "The centre-half area is one where we need cover and Paul definitely has experience and qualities he can bring," Kavanagh told the club's official website. "It was made clear that he was available when he was paid up by Northampton and he's been on our radar for a couple of years. "We had him here a couple of years ago when Greg (Abbott) was manager and we're happy to have another look to see where he's at. "He looked fitter than I thought he was going to be and he could turn out to be a good one for us." Reid, 31, who started out at Carlisle and had a loan spell there in 2008, has had spells with Northampton (twice), Barnsley and Scunthorpe during a 15-year career.
