The 27-year-old joined from St Etienne last summer and hit 13 goals in his debut Bundesliga campaign, but recent reports have linked him with a move back to Italy where he started his career in the youth system at AC Milan.
A host of Serie A sides, including Roma, Juventus and Inter Milan, have been among those suggested as possible destinations, while he was linked with a move to Newcastle prior to joining Dortmund.
Aubameyang featured 32 times as Dortmund finished second in the Bundesliga and Watzke says he is not expecting a departure despite the Gabon international often having to settle for a place on the bench.
"Why should he be leaving? He has just played here for one season," he told Sport-BILD.
"We did not believe he would be put up (in the team) from the start in every match for our club. We have an immense competition for places in the first team, this was impossible for him.
"We are content with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he has a contract left at our club."
