Roberts: Let's make this count

Captain Mark Roberts has urged his team-mates to seize the moment and make history with Fleetwood at Wembley.

Central defender Roberts, 30, already has back-to-back promotions on his CV from his time at Stevenage and he can add another significant achievement to his resume if the Cod Army beat Burton in the League Two play-off final on Monday. Should such an eventuality come to fruition, it would mean Fleetwood, who reformed for the second time in 1997, would have achieved an incredible six promotions in just 10 seasons. There is no sign that the Lancashire club would rest on their laurels upon entering the Football League in 2012 and it is that ambition which motivated Roberts and others to drop down into the fourth tier and move to Highbury. "We want to help the club move forward, that was the whole objective of signing for the club," he admits. "We didn't want to stand still, we wanted to take them to the next level. When you have opportunities to make history you really want to make sure you take the moment, take the bull by the horns and grasp that opportunity." Wembley's showpiece clash will be the fifth fixture between Fleetwood and Burton this season with the latter having won two and lost just one. However, Roberts believes Graham Alexander's men are a different proposition now due to the transformation they have undergone in their boss' first full season in management. "They were at different points in the season," Roberts said of previous results against the Brewers. "We've evolved as a team over the course of the season, we've got stronger and we've got closer as a group. "At the start of the season we were a new set of players, even those already here had to adjust, and we've found our way and found a happy medium between us, I think we're really strong as a group now. "The team spirit's really good throughout the camp and everyone's really excited about the final."
