Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed he has had talks with new Southampton boss Ronald Koeman, but he remains coy on his future.
Saints have already seen England internationals Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana depart this summer, while Schneiderlin is being linked to Arsenal.
The France midfielder, whose side got to the quarter-finals at the World Cup, has been told by Koeman he wants him to stay but is going to see what will unfold.
He (Koeman) called me about a week ago. But what was said will stay between us. He wants me to stay and we’ll see. I don’t know yet.
He told reporters: “Yes, he (Koeman) called me about a week ago. But what was said will stay between us.
“He wants me to stay and we’ll see. I don’t know yet. I still have three years left on my contract at Southampton.
“Nothing has happened, I am going to relax and go on holiday and we will see.”
Schneiderlin, meanwhile, hopes the Saints hierarchy will invest their transfer windfalls wisely.
He added: “We have a lot of money coming into the club and now it is up to the board to spend this money.
“I have seen how many players left the club. It is the club’s choice and I have nothing to say about their choice.”
Schneiderlin hopes France will learn from their quarter-final exit to Germany – and believes they missed injured talisman Franck Ribery as they failed to unlock the stubborn German defence.
“It was very disappointing, but we played against a very good Germany team," he added.
“In the second half we were on top of them even if they had some chances – but they showed that they have the experience and that they are a strong team even when they are not at their best.
“We need to learn and gain experience from this, but being without Franck Ribery was a difficult factor for us.”
