Edwards: Work to be done

Rob Edwards felt Tranmere's last-gasp equaliser in their 1-1 draw with York papered over the cracks of a bad performance.

James Rowe struck a dramatic 94th-minute equaliser to cancel out Keith Lowe's 67th-minute opener for the Minstermen. But Edwards said: "It was a very tough 90 minutes and we had to work hard all the way. "Sometimes though we were trying too hard and not thinking enough. "We have to be more streetwise in that respect and we need to be a team on the pitch. "I could sense a lot of nerves around the ground. We made a lot of passing errors and that is something I haven't really seen from us in training. "I am the man that will pay the price if we don't get the results so I will do things my own way. I know what I want and how I want us to play. "We will have to do better defending set pieces and punch above our weight because we aren't good enough in that department and we conceded from one. "I know we are going to be a good side, but we have got a lot of work to do and must create our own style." Rovers had ten men on the pitch when the equaliser came. Marcus Holness was forced off through injury on 84 minutes, but Edwards had already made all three permitted substitutions. Yet York boss Nigel Worthington was not too despondent after surrendering two points so late on, as Michael Coulson, in particular, proved a constant thorn in Tranmere's side. He said: "We are disappointed to have given a goal away so late in the game. But we would have probably taken a point before the game considering Tranmere have just come down from League One. "When you are so close to all three points and you have to settle for one then it is frustrating but that's life - you have to deal with it. "There are a lot of positives for us to take away from the game, but we need to learn to manage the game and see it through to the final whistle. "We need to retain possession better but that is something we can work from. "I was pleased with our set-pieces because we looked dangerous. "I am very, very pleased with the way we acquitted ourselves overall really. "We had a good pre-season and the confidence we have gained from that showed in our performance. "This game is all about learning and we will learn from the goal we gave away late on."
