Tranmere have opened their chequebook to acquire George Donnelly from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old has penned a two-year deal at Prenton Park after making four appearances for Dale this season, three of which were off the bench. Rovers have been in need of attacking reinforcements after Ryan Lowe, who was the club's top scorer last season, departed for Bury. "George is a fast, powerful striker who will run behind defences and cause them a lot of problems," manager Rob Edwards said on Tranmere's official website. "He gives us an option we haven't currently got in the squad. He's got a lot of experience at this level and helped Rochdale win promotion last season. "I think he'll fit in well with the other attacking players we've got at the club and he will score goals. He's a player I've been keen on for a while and I'm delighted the club have been able to sign him." Donnelly includes Fleetwood, Macclesfield and Stockport among his former employers.
