Blackburn's Michel Salgado feels the club are better off without superstars Ronaldinho and David Beckham.
Rovers' ambitious new owners Venky's launched audacious bids to land both Ronaldinho and Beckham, but neither has materialised.
But former Spain international Salgado insists that not signing the high-profile duo could be a positive for Rovers.
"I don't think someone like Beckham coming here for three months is the best thing for him or Blackburn," said Salgado.
"He's my friend and if he came here it would be great for us.
"But to be honest, for the future of Blackburn it's better to sign a player for three years. It's the same with Ronaldinho.
"We'd prefer three or four club players with good experience, maybe not top class but ones who would be really good for this club in the future.
"We need three or four players with experience and quality rather than Beckham or Ronaldinho.
"Maybe he wouldn't be in the mood to play here in England with the weather and those things. You have to be honest.
"He would be a big name for us, maybe around the world they will talk about us a bit more now.
"But on the pitch I would prefer a good team, playing well and getting results."
