PL Team of the Week

Sky Sports casts an eye over the leading performers from the latest round of Premier League action.

Team of the week

Simon Mignolet - Sunderland

The Belgium international played a vital role in ensuring Sunderland recorded their first Premier League victory of the season. Mignolet made a string of superb saves to add to his clean sheet at Arsenal.

Glen Johnson - Liverpool

Johnson, now in his fourth season at Liverpool, helped secure his club's first win of the season. The former Chelsea man proved a constant threat going forward and, although two goals were conceded, Johnson can't be held accountable.

Ryan Shawcross - Stoke City

The Britannia is a ground in which all Premier League clubs expect a torrid time. Shawcross symbolised the hard working, fierce nature of Tony Pulis' side as he worked tirelessly to limit Swansea's flair players and keep a clean sheet.

Jan Vertonghen - Tottenham

Vertonghen scored inside the first two minutes as he helped Spurs record their first win at Old Trafford since 1989. The Belgium international followed up his Capital One Cup goal midweek at Carlisle as Spurs went on to record a 3-2 victory.

Leighton Baines - Everton

Baines was rested midweek as Everton went down to Leeds United in the Capital One Cup at Elland Road. He is the man who can make the Toffees tick and David Moyes' decision to leave him out paid dividends as Baines put in an impressive display against Southampton.

Gareth Bale - Tottenham

Bale was a real handful, his pace was no match for Rio Ferdinand and his defensive colleagues as he ran from the halfway line into the United box before striking a fierce shot past Anders Lindegaard. Bale also set up Clint Dempsey's second-half finish.

Nuri Sahin - Liverpool

The Turkey international was instrumental in Liverpool's 5-2 victory over Norwich, adding to his two previous Liverpool goals by scoring in the 47th minute. Sahin, on loan from Real Madrid, made his third appearence for Liverpool in the league and completely dominated the midfield.

Michael Kightly - Stoke City

Kightly has fitted in well with Stoke's style of play following his switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was a constant threat for the Potters as they eased to a 2-0 victory over Swansea City at The Britannia.

Sergio Aguero - Manchester City

Making only his third appearance of the season following an injury sustained against Southampton, Aguero looked a real threat and showed tremendous work rate. The Argentine scored just before half-time to cancel out a Mladen Petric penalty in City's 2-1 triumph over Fulham.

Nikica Jelavic - Everton

Jelavic scored his second and third goals of the season to help Everton record a 3-1 victory over struggling Southampton. Jelavic has failed to carry on last season's form thus far but impressed against Saints. Maybe this brace will set him on his way.

Luis Suarez - Liverpool

Stand-out player of the weekend Suarez repeated the hat-trick he scored at Carrow Road last season as he tormented the Canaries. The prolific Uruguay international could have scored more as he instead chose to set up Sahin. He was also brought down in the box, but the referee waved away his penalty appeals.
