WALES 0 SCOTLAND 2 - October 12, 1977
Scotland secured their place in the World Cup finals in Argentina in controversial fashion at Anfield. The Football Association of Wales' decision to move the game to Liverpool saw the home fans outnumbered and Scotland benefited from a huge refereeing blunder 12 minutes from time when Scotland striker Joe Jordan handled in the box but was awarded a penalty. Don Masson converted and Kenny Dalglish headed home with three minutes left.
WALES 0 SCOTLAND 2 - May 28, 1983
Goals from Andy Gray and Alan Brazil gave Scotland victory in the final British Championship encounter between the teams in Wales. The match, at Cardiff's Ninian Park, was also significant for the fact that Aberdeen and Dundee United together provided seven of the Scotland starting line-up - Jim Leighton, Richard Gough, Dave Narey, Willie Miller, Alex McLeish, Eamonn Bannon and Gordon Strachan.

Scotland again ensured World Cup progress but the Ninian Park result was overshadowed by the tragic death of manager Jock Stein, who collapsed with a heart attack in the closing stages. Davie Cooper sent Scotland into a World Cup play-off against Australia with an 81st-minute penalty to cancel out Mark Hughes' opener, following another handball decision.

Rob Earnshaw scored a hat-trick as Berti Vogts suffered another disappointment as Scotland manager. Earnshaw took just 42 seconds to open the scoring in the Millennium Stadium friendly as he raced past Scotland central defenders Paul Ritchie and Steven Caldwell. Gareth Taylor fired home the fourth and also had a goal disallowed.

Vogts hung on to his job for six months after the defeat but Scotland's next Cardiff friendly spelled the immediate end of George Burley's tenure as Scotland boss. Aaron Ramsey ripped the Scots apart in the first half, the 18-year-old Arsenal midfielder scoring and setting up goals for David Edwards and Simon Church. The visitors never looked like coming back and Burley lost his job two days after the Cardiff City Stadium defeat.
