Jamie Redknapp and Niall Quinn had praise for Tottenham's patience and for Swansea's Ashley Williams.
Jan Vertonghen's second-half finish sent Spurs back into the Premier League's top four after being frustrated for much of the match against a stubborn Swansea defence.
The Belgian defender eventually broke the deadlock at White Hart Lane in the 75th minute when he guided home Kyle Walker's free-kick into the far corner of the net
"It was a big three points for Tottenham, you can't always be at your best and the crowd had to be patient," said Redknapp.
"They were not at their fluid best and they missed Garth Bale but it was a good finish from Vertonghen
"We should not be surprised by him scoring these sorts of goals - he scored ten for Ajax last year from centre half. It was offside so he got a little bit of luck there.
"I was surprised by the lack of ambition from Swansea today - to not have one shot on target is just so disappointing. I think they will be horrified when he sees that stat."
Nial Quinn says that Swansea will be more concerned with their concentration slip and said that while their tactics were negative; they were working - until the slip-up.
"The one thing about that goal that Swansea will look at is not that Vertonghen got the great finish and that he may have been offside but the fact that three of them had the chance to clear the first ball. It just needed a simple shout.
"Swansea have come undone today, they had a game plan - it was a negative one, there is no doubt about that but when you come in after all the work you put in, the performance of Ashley Williams and sticking to that game plan all day. Yes Spurs had 23 chances but very few clear-cut, Swansea had done all the hard work and then one little shout from the two players behind to Ben Davies would have seen them safe. Their lack of communication let them down."
Quinn also had high praise for Ashley Williams who signed for Swansea from Stockport for £400,00 and whose defensive performance was very impressive.
"He is a real leader and has just come on leaps and bounds since he has stepped into the Premiership," added Quinn.
"I just feel that there is a calmness about him. He has this authority about him and he is assuming authority over how the game is being dictated and how it is being played. He put in tackle after tackle and interception after interception - I hope Stockport have the sell-on clause!"
