Garry Monk was impressed by his Swansea side's character after they came back from 2-0 down to draw with Bournemouth

Swansea manager Garry Monk was relieved to get a point after his side battled back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth.

The Swans were in trouble when Joshua King and Dan Gosling scored for Bournemouth early on but they rallied with goals from Andre Ayew and Jonjo Shelvey to earn a point.

Monk entered the game deflecting questions about his future after one win in nine games and a loss at home to Bournemouth would have ramped up the pressure on the 36-year-old.

When asked if he was happy with a point in the circumstances, Monk said: "Yes I think so considering we went two goals down.

"Massive credit to the players to come back from that, especially with the situation we have been in.

"They showed good character and great heart today in terms of turning it around so quickly. That side of it was great. We defended well at times but 2-0 down is obviously a point earned."

Swansea's Jonjo Shelvey scored his first goal this season against Bournemouth, and has said that he and the rest of the squad are behind Garry Monk

Swansea rode their luck in the game with the visitors dominating possession and territory for long periods and Monk admitted his players are very low on confidence following their poor recent run of form.

"At this moment in time, I felt there was that little bit of tension in the players with the ball," Monk said.

"That is what we do - bring the players back with that confidence. They are good players and they can play very well and very sharp.

"That bit of tension affected us today. Obviously going two goals down, the crowd becomes a bit anxious and you could feel that bit of anxiety seep into the players. I thought they did well to battle through that.

"That confidence comes with results. It is as simple as that. It is important we build momentum with results and get that confidence back into the players, especially with the ball."
