Burnley captain Tom Heaton has signed a new four-year deal with the Premier League club.

The goalkeeper, who had two years remaining on his existing contract, has extended his stay at Turf Moor until the summer of 2020.

Heaton, who made his England debut earlier this year against Australia, said he is thrilled to have agreed a new deal following the club's promotion from the Championship.

"I am obviously over the moon to sign for another four years," he told the club's official website. "I'm really looking forward to the challenge, especially this season and whatever comes after that.

"Being at Burnley has been fantastic for me and I've enjoyed every minute, on a personal note.

"Now I'm looking forward, as I say, to what the future is, to keep challenging myself and the position."

Heaton, who began his career in the reserve team at Manchester United, added he is determined to become an England regular.

"I really want to kick on and push that boundary now and see where I can get to," said Heaton, who was included in England's Euro 2016 squad.

"As ever, you reach that point and you think about the next one, getting more, starting a game and kicking on from there.

"That's certainly my drive and desire, but I've been in the game long enough to know that the important thing is you keep working hard every day.

"That's certainly what my focus is on. I want to get better. I still feel like I've got more to come, still want to achieve more and all that comes from hard work."

It comes after the Clarets made a double signing yesterday, bringing in Charlton pair Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope.

Iceland winger Gudmundsson, who played in the win over England in the European Championship last month, joined the Turf Moor club for £2.5m, while goalkeeper Pope was signed for £1.1m.

Sean Dyche's side kick-off their Premier League campaign at home to Swansea City on August 13th.
