Gael Clichy says Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany was just being "sensible" when he came off at half-time against Manchester United in midweek.

The Belgian defender started back-to-back games for Pep Guardiola's side for the first time this season following injury but was replaced after 45 minutes at Old Trafford in the 1-0 EFL Cup defeat on Wednesday.

Guardiola moved to allay any injury concerns over Kompany after the match, with the 30-year-old training with team-mates as normal on Thursday, and Clichy said his captain was just playing it safe as he continues to work his way back to full match fitness.

"Vinnie is a massive player for us - but there's nothing to be worried about," Clichy said.
