Swansea are in advanced talks to sign Las Palmas midfielder Roque Mesa for a deal worth £11m, Sky sources understand.

The Premier League club have beaten off competition from European rivals Roma and Sevilla to land the 28-year-old, who would be Swansea's first signing of the summer.

It is understood that while the deal is progressing as planned, it has not been finalised as yet.

The Spaniard has made 126 appearances for Las Palmas since making his debut in 2011.

Mesa came through the academy at La Liga side Levante to make his debut for the B side in 2007.

He didn't make his debut in the Spanish top flight until August 2015, though, in a 1-0 loss at Atletico Madrid.

A month later he scored his first goal in La Liga, netting the opener in a 2-0 win against Sevilla.

The only business Paul Clement and the Swans have done so far was to release nine players from the squad, including the likes of Marvin Emnes and Gerhard Tremmel.

Sky sources also understand the Swans are close to winning the race for Chelsea's sought-after young striker Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan.

Meanwhile, left-back Franck Tabanou has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent one year early.

The 28-year-old joined from St Etienne in 2015 but made just three first-team appearances and spent time on loan in France and Spain.
