Newcastle United 1-1 Royal Antwerp: Toon held in friendly at training camp

Ritchie

Newcastle were held 1-1 by Royal Antwerp in a training camp friendly match at the Pinatar Arena in Spain.

Rafa Benitez played two different elevens in each half of the 135-minute contest.

Matt Ritchie put the Toon in front on 41 minutes with a delicate lob before Alexander Corryn levelled the game for the Belgians late on.

There was an opportunity for Dwight Gayle to steal the win for the Premier League side but he missed from the penalty spot.

The Newcastle squad are in Spain for a three-week break from competitive football as Benitez has used the fixture gap to keep his team ticking over in warmer climbs in Murcia.
