Nicky Shorey is still waiting to receive the offer of a new contract from Reading.Nicky Shorey admits he is still waiting to receive the offer of a new contract from Reading.
The full-back capped his debut season in the Premier League with an international bow for England in the June friendly with Brazil.
In an attempt to ward off interest from other clubs, Reading have outlined plans to discuss a new contract, although Shorey is awaiting a concrete offer.
"I haven't received an offer yet, so there's not much to talk about," Shorey told the Reading Chronicle.
"All I know is they want to extend my contract by a couple of years. But you're asking the wrong man.
"I've done well at Reading and I'm looking to get it sorted. I've got two years left on my current deal, so we're not going to rush anything through."
Newcastle United and West Ham United have been linked with bids for the defender, who is flattered to have attracted interest from elsewhere.
He added: "People will always speculate. It's nothing but paper talk. I haven't received an offer, but then all offers go through the club.
"Obviously it's nice to hear other clubs are interested because it shows you must be doing something right.
"We'll see what happens and I don't want to say one thing or the other. Things can happen out of the blue.
"You never know what will happen from one minute to the next in football. We'll just see how it goes."
