Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has played down talk linking him with a move for Wigan striker Emile Heskey.
Heskey's future at the JJB Stadium has been the subject of intense speculation with the player's current contract expiring at the end of the season.
Spurs were credited with an interest in Heskey during the summer transfer window and reports have suggested they could make a move for the England international when the window reopens next month.
However, Redknapp feels the former Liverpool and Leicester man will stay at Wigan next month and take advantage of his free agent status in the summer.
"He's a free in the summer and I think he will wait to be a free agent," Redknapp told The Times. "Then he has the power.
"The difference between £3million and free is that he can name his price because the club are paying nothing for him.
"I can see him waiting until the summer unless someone is really desperate to take him."
LoansRedknapp revealed he is unlikely to be spending big money in January, but admits he would like to bring in a couple of loans to bolster his sqaud.
"I had a meeting with the chairman the other day and he said no-one would be spending fortunes. I don't want to spend fortunes anyway," added Redknapp.
"If I can bring in some loans, I will be more than happy."
