Everton have confirmed that James Vaughan has undergone surgery on a niggling knee problem.
The youngster first sustained the injury over a month ago, twisting the joint during training.
The striker recently visited renowned specialist Dr Richard Steadman in Colardo, with it becoming apparent that an operation represented the only feasible option available to him.
The American surgeon had operated on Vaughan in the past, helping the 20-year-old to overcome a serious problem in his left knee.
He was due to carry out the latest procedure but broke his arm in a skiing accident, forcing the Toffees starlet to seek help in England.
Recovery
He finally went under the knife on Wednesday, with repairs carried out to lateral cartilage damage.
"James had his operation yesterday (Wednesday) and everything went very well," confirmed Everton assistant manager Steve Round.
"We now wish him a speedy recovery, and hopefully he should be fit before the end of the season.
"But we will have to keep a tab on that and see how it goes over the next few weeks."
Vaughan is one of four Everton strikers currently out of action, with Yakubu Aiyegbeni out for the remainder of the campaign and Louis Saha and Victor Anichebe carrying slight knocks.
