Rochdale boss Keith Hill has completed his first piece of January business by signing Frank Fielding on loan from Blackburn.
The promising keeper, who is held in high regard at Ewood Park, joins the League Two outfit on a one-month deal.
The 20-year-old spent three months on loan at Northampton earlier in the 2008/09 campaign, and has enjoyed two successful spells at Wycombe in the past.
While Hill was expected to strengthen other areas of the field before turning his attention to keepers, the Spotland chief is delighted to have secured such a high-calibre signing.
"He is a very good keeper," Hill told the club's
official website.
"We have been tracking him for two years and he had great experience last season with Wycombe. Once we knew that he was back from Northampton and available we have recruited him.
"We do now have three keepers but every Premier League club has at least three and we consider ourselves to be a Premier League club in the making. It is about competition for places. We are not keeping clean sheets and we want to rectify that."
Impress
Fielding, meanwhile, is looking forward to pushing for a regular first-team role in a division he knows well.
"I had a good long spell at Wycombe and we got in the play-offs during my time there," he said.
"I am really looking forward to being involved in competitive games and games that we have to win. It is brilliant to come here and see what happens.
"Obviously with Sam Allardyce taking over at Blackburn Rovers everyone is keen to impress him and we have spoken about the need for me to get games under my belt which will then help me to get knocking on the door for getting in and around the team.
"As a keeper I am still seen as being young so coming here and getting more experience can only be a real help to me. Hopefully the move will be really beneficial to both Rochdale as a club and myself."
