Manchester City executive chairman Garry Cook has confirmed the club have agreed a deal with Hamburg for Nigel de Jong and personal terms are now to be discussed.
Hamburg spokesman Joern Wolf claimed on Monday that the two clubs had reached an understanding and that the final decision lay with the midfielder.
And Cook, who recently failed in a world-record attempt to sign AC Milan star Kaka, has now reinforced Wolf's statement.
Cook has confirmed that City have agreed a fee for former Ajax ace De Jong, believed to be in the region of £16million, and that discussions are set to take place with the 24-year-old.
"We have made an offer to Hamburg and, respectfully, they have said the player is for sale," Cook told Sky Sports News.
"We have agreed a price and now it is down to discussing the deal with the player and his agent."
