Dane in line for short-term deal

Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear has confirmed he plans to sign Danish winger Peter Lovenkrands on a short-term deal. The former Rangers ace is currently on trial at Newcastle after being released by Schalke earlier this month. Lovenkrands impressed in a friendly against Carlisle earlier this week and Kinnear is keen to have the Dane on board at St James' Park. "I've passed it to Derek Llambias, who is talking to Peter's agent," said Kinnear. "He's thrashing out some sort of deal to the end of the season. "I thought he was excellent yesterday, and he'll be an extra player for us. He's done very well." Meanwhile, Newcastle are also considering a move for Algerian defender Ahmed-Reda Madouni. Madouni has linked up with Newcastle on trial as he is available on a free transfer. Kinnear will cast an eye over the former Borussia Dortumund and Bayer Leverkusen ace in training before deciding whether to make a move for the 28-year-old.
