Blackburn are set to seal a deal for Russian star Pavel Pogrebnyak, according to his club Zenit St Petersburg. The 25-year-old has already been targeted by Everton and Bolton this month, but neither have been able to agree terms for the striker. Now Rovers have come in with a bid that is very close to Zenit's valuation and they appear ready to do business with the player's current contract due to expire in November. "Yesterday [Tuesday], Blackburn officials contacted us and made an offer for Pogrebnyak," president Maxim Mitrofanov confirmed to Sovietsky Sport. "Their offer is almost the same as our valuation. "If they send us the offer officially in time, we will contact Pogrebnyak and will persuade him to go to England." Pogrebnyak, who has scored 28 goals in 51 games for Zenit, has admitted he would relish the chance to make the switch to the Premier League. "I am a huge fan of the English Premier League, to play there is my dream," he told Sport Express. The news of Blackburn's interest in Pogrebnyak is sure to add further weight to speculation that Rovers will relent over Manchester City's pursuit of their own striker Roque Santa Cruz.
