Gianfranco Zola is looking to bring Spartak Moscow defender Radoslav Kovac to West Ham.
The 29-year-old Czech Republic international is being tracked by a number of clubs but Zola admitted after the Hammers' 2-0 win over Hull City that he is interested in the defender.
"There might be a chance, we will see," the Hammers boss told Sky Sports when asked about Kovac.
"We want to improve this team and we will see what happens but this team is going to be alright anyway."
Even if the Irons do not manage to snap up Kovac, Zola said he will be delighted once the January transfer window closes.
A number of the Hammers' key players, including Matthew Upson and Scott Parker, have been the subject of transfer speculation but Zola is confident he can hang on to his star names.
"It has been a difficult time for all of us. I don't like this window and am looking forward to the finish when I will be much more relaxed.
"I think we can keep the players that are here. The club does not want to sell anyone and I think the players that are here want to stay. They are enjoying what they are doing and are keen to take this club to the highest level possible."
The Hammers certainly appeared to enjoy the comprehensive win over the Tigers and Zola was delighted with their efforts.
"It was a great match today and I thought we played fantastic. What pleased me was the attitude - they did not want to lose a challenge. When the strikers are chasing back it tells you a lot about this team."
One of the forwards, goalscorer Carlton Cole, hailed his team's "awesome" win which extended their unbeaten run to seven matches.
"From start to finish we knew our predicament - it was a very important game to define our season, and really the boys did brilliantly today. We're proud," Cole said.
Cole, who has scored five in five to equal Tony Cottee's West Ham record, added: "I need to get more goals, more of the easier ones.
"I'm proud - but I just need to keep on going and add more goals to my game."
