Sam Allardyce has confirmed Kevin Kuranyi was on his radar as a possible replacement for Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz.
Rovers spent the transfer window fending off bids from Manchester City for Santa Cruz and the deadline passed with the Paraguayan still at Ewood Park.
Schalke forward Kuranyi had been linked with a move to Blackburn, if City had persuaded Allardyce to cash in on Santa Cruz before the close of the window.
Allardyce admitted to an interest in Kuranyi, who was also wanted by Everton, but concedes he will wait until the summer before deciding whether to make a bid.
"Yes," said Allardyce on Sky Sports News when asked if Kuranyi was on his radar.
"I've not even thought about the summertime. I've got to make sure we secure our Premier League status first before we even think about what's going to happen in the summer, so we can't plan for that yet until we know where we are."
The Blackburn boss insists he never set an asking price for Santa Cruz and would have looked to bring in more than one player, if the former Bayern Munich man had been sold.
He added: "We never put a price on it and we never said there was going to be a price. What we said is we would have to find alternatives.
"If we were to do it, the alternatives to replace him, for me, that wasn't replacing one for one, that was replacing two for one, so we try and look for a replacement in many, many areas and many players, and other players in other positions.
"That didn't come to fruition in terms of what I was looking for.
"Both myself and the chairman worked very closely together throughout this window and communicated extremely well on a day-to-day basis to make the right decisions and we feel we've made the right decisions on all the enquiries we had over the January window."
