Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has admitted that he was in the dark as to where his future lay during the winter transfer window.
Jenas was linked with a move to Inter Milan in January as part of a possible swap deal involving striker Adriano or midfielder Ricardo Quaresma, who eventually joined Chelsea.
In the end the speculated switch to Serie A failed to materialise and the England international is now keen to focus on his White Hart Lane career.
Jenas has slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Harry Redknapp and has further competition for a starting berth after the January signing of Wilson Palacios from Wigan.
The former Newcastle player was handed the captain's armband in a much-changed XI for the 2-0 Uefa Cup defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday and is hoping for more regular action.
He told the London Evening Standard: "I was very flattered when I heard about Inter Milan. If a club like Inter take an interest in you, you will always take notice. It is good for confidence.
"I will be honest: I did not know where I was at one point during the transfer window. But I spoke to the manager, who said he wanted me to stay, and that is where we are at the moment.
"The manager knows what I am capable of, and it was good to be back in the team against Shakhtar.
"I was also happy to be back in the side for the 0-0 draw against Arsenal, and hopefully there are more games to come."
