Abdoulaye Faye has hailed Stoke City's supporters as 'the best in the Premier League' after taking over the captain's armband.
The Senegal defender has assumed the captaincy duties after regular skipper Andy Griffin was omitted from the starting line-up in recent games.
And Faye, who joined the Potters from Newcastle United last summer, has offered his gratitude to the fans for sticking with the team whatever the result.
"I'm so happy at Stoke and the support is unbelievable," Faye told the Sentinel. "I want to thank the fans. I love them. They are the best in the Premier League.
"For 90 minutes they don't stop supporting their club. At Newcastle it was OK. When you won, the support was there, but it would change if you played for 30 minutes and didn't score.
"At Stoke that doesn't happen. Whether we win or lose, the support is there."
Meanwhile, Stoke have confirmed Ricardo Fuller has been arrested by police following alleged motoring offences near to the club's training ground.
In a brief statement the club said: "The club can confirm that striker Ricardo Fuller has this morning been arrested by Staffordshire Police for a motoring offence.
"We will be making no further comment at this time."
Supt Bernie O'Reilly, of Stoke-on-Trent police division, told the Sentinel: "At about 9.30am this morning in Riverside Road, Trent Vale, a 29-year-old man driving a vehicle was stopped by officers.
"As a result of their enquiries, his vehicle was seized and he was arrested for driving licence and vehicle insurance offences and taken to Northern Area Custody Facility where he will be interviewed today."
Fuller was later charged with driving without insurance and without a correct licence and will appear at Fenton Magistrates Court on 6th March.
