Spaniard insists United can be caught in search for silverware

Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa is refusing to accept defeat to Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title. If the Red Devils earn four points from matches against Wigan and Arsenal, they could equal Liverpool's record of 18 top-flight titles before their North-West rivals play their next game. But Arbeloa insists Liverpool - who have done the domestic double over United and third-placed Chelsea this season - are not throwing in the towel ahead of Sunday's trip to West Brom. The right-back told the Liverpool Echo: "We are happy to be up there fighting for the Premier League title. "We know that in recent seasons we have been out of the title race at this stage so to be still involved in the fight is important for the team.

Important

"When you are at a club like Liverpool the most important thing is to win titles and it is important for us to be in there. "We have proven that we are a tough team. We've played really well this season and we have beaten both Manchester United and Chelsea twice in the league. "It is going to be difficult but I still think it is possible for us to win the title. "All of us know that it will be difficult but in football you never know what will happen." Meanwhile, Liverpool have confirmed that current Academy director Piet Hamberg is to part company with the club.
