Kevin Kilbane believes his Republic of Ireland team-mate Daryl Murphy will give the Hull City attack some much needed versatility.
The 26-year-old is set to become the Tigers' first summer signing when he arrives from Sunderland on Thursday for a reported fee of £1.5million.
Hull City manager Phil Brown settled on Murphy after Michael Owen, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Fraizer Campbell all rejected moves to the KC Stadium this summer, leaving fans craving a big-name signing somewhat disappointed.
But Kilbane feels Murphy, who has scored four goals in 69 Premier League games for the Black Cats, can bring different qualities to the Tigers' frontline.
"Daryl's a very good player with a lot of ability," he told the Hull Daily Mail.
Proven his worth
"I've had him with me in the international side and he's certainly proven his worth to the team.
"He's a big strong lad who's got good feet and he works ever so hard for the team.
"He's also got the versatility where he can play either on the right or the left or up the top, so he's a player who I'm sure would be a very good addition if or when he comes and signs for us."
