Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has intimated the club are unlikely to sign Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch as he is 'expensive'.
Redknapp has been linked with a move for the towering attacker while Fulham are also alleged admirers, but Sunderland have ended their pursuit of his signature.
When pressed on whether he could bid for England international Crouch, Redknapp highlighted the number of attackers he currently has at his disposal before questioning the value of a potential deal.
He said on Sky Sports News: "Portsmouth are trying to sell Crouchy. Sunderland were interested and I think Fulham are interested.
"I like Crouchy but at the moment I have got four strikers here. Four good strikers. So it is not a priority.
"I haven't got to get rid of anyone. We are not desperate at the moment for strikers.
"I just feel that for that type of money it is an awful lot of money, no disrespect, but Peter is 28-years-old.
"Basically it is an expensive deal because there is no return when you pay that type of money. And obviously his salary is high.
"I don't know whether it is possible for us to do that type of deal. It is an expensive deal. The whole package looks expensive."
Redknapp also dismissed reports linking Aston Villa with an interest in midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
He said: "I have never heard a thing from Aston Villa. I don't know where those stories keep coming from. No one has ever contacted us.
"I don't want to sell Jermaine Jenas, he is a terrific player. We don't want to sell our best players."
