Sam Ricketts insists his rise through the football pyramid has ensured that he takes nothing for granted.
The 27-year-old finally found himself in the Premier League last season after a career which had taken in the non-league and the lower divisions of English football's professional ranks.
He clambered into the big time with Hull City, and helped the Tigers preserve their top flight status in their debut campaign at that level.
Ricketts has since moved on to Bolton, but claims he will not be resting on his laurels after establishing himself among the elite.
"I appreciate things more because of my background," he said.
"In non-league you have to muck in and get on with it. So when someone does something for you, it is nice."
Ricketts is set for a quick-fire reunion with his former Tigers team-mates on Saturday when Bolton travel to the KC Stadium.

He is looking forward to meeting up with old friends, but admits he is will be doing them no favours once the game gets underway.
"I had three progressive years at the club and they were thoroughly enjoyable," he said.
"The first year we just stayed up, the second year we got promoted and last year we managed to stay in the Premier League.
"Hull grew a lot under the manager and I felt I improved with every season. But you only enjoy going back to your old club if you win. If you lose it is the worst place to be."
Ricketts added: "They always have good support and nearly every game is a sell out. There is always a good atmosphere. If we can quieten them down it will be to our advantage.
"We have a good squad and a chance to have a really good season. It keeps you on your toes moving clubs. Bolton have been in the Premier League a few years and there is an infrastructure in place that makes the club attractive."
