Roberto Martinez has hailed Mario Melchiot for setting a good example to his team-mates as the defender prepares to play against Notts County with a broken nose.
The Wigan captain picked up the injury in the 2-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday and will wear a protective mask in the upcoming FA Cup tie.
Martinez believes it is typical of the player's attitude that he is happy to carry on and not take a break.
"Mario is setting the right example as skipper of the club," said the Latics manager. "It will take a lot more than that to keep him away from the pitch.
"It is a straight fracture, it hasn't stopped him training, and he will play with a mask. He should be fine, which is great news."
Paul Scharner could also be fit to face the League Two side despite suffering a swollen ankle and knee against Wolves.
"We will assess him over the next couple of days," added Martinez.
