Everton manager David Moyes was unhappy with the first half showing of his side after their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
The loss capped a miserable week for Moyes, who saw his men knocked out of the Europa League after they capitulated to defeat against Sporting Lisbon.
The Toffees found themselves on the back foot from the first whistle and it was no surprise when sloppy defending allowed Spurs to take an 11th minute lead.
There was nothing Everton could have done about the second, and they set about repairing the damage with a strong second half showing.
Yakubu Aiyegbeni's tap in gave the visitors confidence, and they could have been level had Heurelho Gomes not made excellent saves from Jack Rodwell and Steven Pienaar.
Disappointed
Loan striker Landon Donovan spurned a glorious opportunity unmarked the back post to equalise, although Moyes refused to criticise the American for his glaring miss - instead revealing his displeasure at another poor performance.
He said: "We didn't turn up in the first half. You could maybe say the same thing about Tottenham in the second half. Landon is disappointed. It happens in football."
Moyes revealed that Louis Saha was missing from the matchday squad through injury, which added to the Merseysiders' woe.
Saha was badly missed by the visitors as chances went begging to grab an equaliser, and it remains unclear how long the 15-goal striker will be out for.
Moyes added: "He has a bit of a hamstring and a bit of an Achilles. We've not had the scan read yet."
