Sky Sports sources understand Everton have made an offer of just under £1million for French striker Magaye Gueye.
The 19-year-old Strasbourg forward has been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs, with Sunderland, Birmingham and Bolton all names in the frame.
Ligue 1 outfit Lyon are also thought to be interested in the youngster, who is regarded as a hot prospect for the future.
Gueye, a France Under-21 international, produced a number of eye-catching performances for Strasbourg last season although he could not prevent them slipping into the third tier.
Everton have already added former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford and Portuguese starlet Joao Silva to their squad this summer, and David Moyes is keen to further bolster his attacking options.
