Brazilian striker released by Hull in order to reduce wage bill

Striker Geovanni has departed Hull City after having his contract terminated by mutual consent. The Brazilian, who still had a year remaining on his deal, joined the KC Stadium on a free transfer from Manchester City during the summer of 2008 making an instant impact by scoring the Tigers' first ever goal in the Premier League on his debut in the 2-1 win against Fulham. The 30-year-old made a total of 65 appearances, scoring 13 goals during the two seasons he was with the club. Hull have been forced to release their higher wage earners following their relegation from the Premier League. Geovanni will best be remembered for scoring with a stunning 30-yard effort in the memorable 2-1 win at Arsenal in September 2008. The Brazil international, who spent time plying his trade in Spain and Portugal before making his move to England, is a reported target for Greek clubs AEK Athens and Panathinaikos.
