New Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has expressed his determination to become the club's No.1.
Edwin van der Sar is firmly established as Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice at Old Trafford but is drawing towards the end of his career and could retire this summer.
Speculation has suggested that United will look to sign another top-class keeper to directly replace the 40-year-old.
And although Lindegaard is convinced he can make the place his own if he works hard enough, he admits such an ambition is still a long-term goal.
"I want to be the best," the 26-year-old, who previously played for Aalesund, told the Manchester Evening News.
Far on the horizon
"I want to be first choice. I am not here because I want to be on the bench.
" I am not thinking about Edwin's situation. I only focus on things I can do something about and that is me.
"Being number one at United is a goal far out on the horizon. It is not something I think about when I go to sleep at night.
"The only thing I think about then is tomorrow's training. But it is always there on the horizon that reminds you of where you want to go and what you want to be."
