Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll insists he still has the ability to play in the top two divisions of English football, as he sets his sights on finding a new club this summer.
The 33-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Danish outfit Odense in February and he is now eager for a taste of the big time once again.
Carroll, who won a Premier League winners' medal and the FA Cup during his four seasons at Old Trafford between 2001 and 2005, certainly has experience on his side having also played for Wigan, West Ham and Derby during a long career which started at Hull City back in 1996.
His superb performances in Denmark earned him the goalkeeper of the year prize in 2009/10, as Odense finish runners-up behind Copenhagen, while last season he helped them reach the group stages of the Europa League for the first time.
With his confidence restored, Carroll now wants the opportunity to re-establish himself in England and he said: "I'm hoping I can get a club in either the Championship or the Premier League - I just want to get my foot back in the door of English football.
"I came home from Denmark so I could play in English football but at the moment things have been quiet. I just need to get a few training sessions at some clubs to prove my point that I'm still young for a goalkeeper at 33 but also have the experience. Hopefully something will happen in the next few weeks.
"I've been out of English football for a while so it would be nice to get a club where I'd be pushing to be No.1 straight away.
"If the situation arose where I'd be a No.2 then I'd just work really hard, prove myself in training, impress in the reserve team and earn my place in the first XI - that's the way football is, especially for a goalkeeper.
"There's only one position in the team but I've been around for 15 years and I know what it's all about. I just need to get my foot in the door at a club who wants me so I can work hard and prove myself again."
