Arsene Wenger admits that summer signing Olivier Giroud is under pressure ahead of Arsenal's Champions League tie with the striker's old club Montpellier.
The Frenchman is yet to open his account for the Gunners following his arrival from in the transfer window for a fee said to be around £12million.
The 25-year-old started Saturday's game against Southampton on the bench, but failed to contribute when called upon late in the 6-1 demolition of the Saints.
"I felt that he is under much pressure at the moment and sometimes to get a little breather is good," said Wenger.
"What I will do on Tuesday I honestly don't know. I just felt that the time has come for him to not be under too much pressure."
Giroud bagged 25 goals to help Montpellier to their first-ever French title last season, but speaking to Arsenal's website he confessed he was unsure over what kind of reaction he will get from their fans if he plays on Tuesday.
"I hope to receive a good reception from the Montpellier fans, because I finished the top goal scorer there last season and worked hard for the title.
"I think the reaction will be good, but there may be some people who will boo. It is always like this."
If he does break his duck for his new club against his old one, the striker says he will keep his emotions under control.
"I want to score in every match, but if I score against Montpellier, I will keep the celebration small," he added.
"That is normal for anybody, for the club and Montpellier fans. It will be out of my respect to my old club."
