John Terry and Ashley Cole, who have found themselves in the headlines for the wrong reasons this week, both started for Chelsea in the 4-1 win over Norwich.
Di Matteo, who has confirmed there will be a "disciplinary process" with Cole following his outburst at the FA on Twitter, admits there were determined to get the win over Norwich to stay at the top of the table going into the international break.
"I like to play, watch and talk about football but obviously sometimes there are other issues to talk about other stuff, but my job is to keep the team focused on what our targets are.
"We wanted to win this game badly and go into this international break at the top of the Premier League."
Di Matteo was delighted with the performance of his side as they recovered from going behind to Grant Holt's early goal thanks to strikes from Fernando Torres, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard and Branislav Ivanovic.
"Yeah it was a wonderful performance," added Di Matteo. "I think we played some excellent football, scored four goals again and at the moment we seem to be scoring a lot of goals and creating chances as well, we probably could have scored one or two more.
"The team is in good health and they are enjoying themselves the way we are playing and we are happy to be where we are."
Di Matteo admitted cancelling out Holt's shock opener for the hosts was the key moment of the game.
"Every team makes it very hard when they come here. They sit back and it's hard for us to break them down and then we go 1-0 down and makes it even worse so for us the equaliser was so important.
"It came three minutes after they scored which gave us a big boost and from there on we never looked back."
