The Latics, who are outside the relegation zone only on goal difference, have won just two league games at the DW Stadium this campaign.
This weekend they host Sunderland in the first of eight remaining home games and Martinez is keen to start picking up points to avoid a repeat of last season's last-ditch escape from the drop.
"Obviously our away performances and results have been good enough," said the 39-year-old Spaniard. "We have been competitive and if you look at the last three performances, including the FA Cup, it is not easy to be consistent away from home and we have done that.
"That is something that now we need to take into the home form.
"There are only eight games left at the DW Stadium - a special environment for our players to enjoy playing their football. They are eight finals, eight incredibly important events for us to get as many points as we can.
"We do need to get the points the performances deserve. There is no margin for error and we are excited about it. We look forward to that."
Sunderland have also endured a difficult campaign but recent wins over Southampton, Manchester City and West Ham have boosted their hopes of survival.
"They are in their best moment of the season with three wins in their last five," added Martinez. "But we need to be better against Sunderland. We do need to change our luck by playing a lot better and being stronger in our performance."
